Looks like I won the bye lottery. Anyone else having problems connecting on Vassal lately?
Yes, it’s been down for what’s fast approaching 12 hours now. No idea what the problem it but it seems to be pretty universal at the moment.
Marcus, check again!
It would be really cool if some of the battles were posted. Any chance of that happening?
Well, just looking at the above bracket I’m guessing we’ll get official battle reports on TC or on the community site for games with:
Tim Bunn
Zach Bunn
Steven Wooley
Philip Rowland
Ken Jenkins
Terrence Miltner
Robert Johnson
That’s pretty much every game but 1 for week 1. So yes, reports are imminent. I’m really excited to pick the ‘From on High’ series back up. Been busy crafting the Mastering Monsterpocalypse Challenges… Will be posting reports on games though, for sure.
Vassal hasn’t been connecting since about 4 Monday for me.
Looks like I have a last minute opponent to battle. Vassal still hates me.
Who the heck is Terrence Miltner? I have absolutely no clue who he is. But hey, if you are reading this Terrence, I won’t be able to reply to Email until ~4PM Central Time due to school. So be expecting a reply later in the day. Can’t wait to kill you. +)
Hmmm…. Zach, I almost get the feeling that our match up wasn’t entirely random…
I had a number associated with everyone in the order that they signed up, then entered it into a web-based tournament bracket generator. From there, I built the bracket into what it is above.
Axl, you got me. I can wait for your reply. Zach, I was wondering if you “seeded” the tourney. But I guess not.
Man…I’m really excited about this! Even if I get smoked first round, it’s just great to see a Monpoc bracket.
Crap, I just realized when I got the automated message that I put down the wrong monster version. (always mixing up ultras and megas)
I guess Zach is going to win by typo.
Btw, can you guys get your auto message or whatever it is to not send me a mail every time I play with a 3 building list to send in the other 9 buildings? Would it simply be better if I just said “Empty Slot x_” like I did this time or what, since these are somewhat irritating.
I guess I missed this auto-message everyone’s talking about. I thought someone was managing this by hand for now…
Maybe someone is. Just posting this to make sure, since I don’t want to get called out on a message that gets CC’d to my opponent, stating that I am basicly cheating by not showing all of my other assumed buildings.
So you’re only running three buildings? Got it.
I sent that particular email! I thought you made a mistake, but let it be known I posed the idea of a 3 building city back in October when I went to San Diego. So, I think it’s a viable option I just didn’t want you to have been copy and pasting a list that missed a few buildings. You are good to go with 3 buildings.
OK, find it funny that you apparently never read my blog for this list fully yet. Oh well. And btw, I didn’t just theorize the tactic, I playtested it (And still am +). Works EXTREMELY well for some monsters like Ulgoth. I really was amazed the first time I played him with 3 Buildings.
I’ve played against one opponent who took less than 12 buildings deliberately. Laser Knight, with I think 5…4 cathedrals and a Bank HQ. I was very unprepared for how to deal with empty foundations.
since then I’ve practiced in case it comes up again. I don’t know if I’ve learned anything useful, but we’ll see.
It seems a bit unwise to not pack a city full of spires when you have Armored…
Oh it works well enough. Much better than my tethered internet connection.
I was down a couple damage when we both got tired of my need to keep resyncing. What the empty foundations really do is give monsters without mobility abilities an opportunity to move. I learned a few things. Really should have gotten in a few Vassal games ahead of my first match. Oh well. Best of luck to the rest of the crew.
I toyed with the idea of only running 3 buildings with Quantum Kondo, because he is ground bound and doesn’t really require a power base. Interesting thought at the worst.
Only Mega LK is armored. Normal + Ultra are immune to super damage. The idea being (of course) is that you keep your city size small, then you opponent loses hazards and collisions on top of super damage to hurt you. Being able to only hit LK for 1 (with a repair vehicle always ready) is so very annoying.
I saw it played locally to very devastating effect. It’s almost a silver bullet to MZM.
Also, I love the LK army so if you want to see how it work. LMK and we’ll play. (Or I’ll even try it against Zach this weekend if he wants)
Well, between our game and one against the Theorist (plus crafting a few challenges for mastering monpoc), I’m pretty much booked. At some point though, we could do it and I can document it for a blog.
I’m definitely enjoying this tournament. Bobb and I have been playing a game that I personally feel has been very back-and-forth. There will definitely be a report on it (assuming Bobb doesn’t object) once it’s all said and done.
I don’t think I’ve got enough games under my belt to know of my game with Phillip was epic or not, but it sure felt like it. At the least, it had 3 different acts, and there were key points during the game that could have swung things in a totally different direction. Kudos to TC for getting this together, and I look forward to the next!
Kevin and I just had ourselves a game…incredible.
I just now realized that at least we all made it to the sweet sixteen. Congrats to Zach on making the elite 8 and good luck reaching the final four.
Bobb, it was definitely what I’d call epic. There was only one major blunder that I can think of, and it was on my part. I’ll definitely be doing a write-up of it as soon as I get the time.
@steven / kevin – great game fella’s. I watched the last 80% of it and it was epic. It’s a dice game, but well played on both parts. Good finishing move kevin.
@Nate – good game man. I really enjoyed playing against you and hopefully one day I’ll get to play you in person. Looking forward to the Laser Knight match!
@Phil – looking forward to your game report. From what I hear, it was an interesting and intense game.
