Our first Monpoc Combo of the Week was actually sent in by two separate players – Vane Dolenc and David Conklin. Thanks guys! Enjoy the video.
*Edit: I just noticed that I shorted my first roll by one B-Die. I should have received an extra B-Die from my grunt C-Type being granted Leadership. Apologies!
Here’s what David Conklin had to say about this combo:
K/C and the Slamdown Band
One of the great things about Monsterpocalyspe is that many games come down to the difference of one or two health points on the final monster form. Victory or defeat can hinge on a strategic hit to your opponent’s monster early or mid-game.
While back-to-back monster activations are usually the preferable method of inflicting these crucial hits, a savvy player will make sure he has a unit combo handy to inflict a hit on a monster, thus increasing the likelihood of coming out on top in the end-game.
One such combo for the Shadow Syndicate is the Katana/C-Type Shinobi combined attack group, affectionately known as K/C and the Slamdown Band.
Katanas are arguably one of the best units to be added in ICNY, and are formidable for anti-unit duty. But when they are coupled with C-Type Shinobi, the duo becomes a great anti-monster force.
Put a C-Type Shinobi grunt and elite together with a grunt and elite Katana and you’ve got a 4 man squad of monster hurting goodness. With proper placement, you can make a blast attack against your opponent’s monster with 4 action dice and up to10 boost dice!
An even more advantageous use of this squad is designating the Elite C-Type as the leader in order to make use of his Disrupt and Power Drain blast triggers. Knocking the opponent down to alpha form and stealing a p-die adds insult to injury.
Overall, this is a great combo that very well could inflict an important point of damage that makes all the difference in the final stages of battle.
And here is what Vane had to say:
My opponents have recently learned to loathe C-type Shinobi and Katanas. These two ICNY units turned the SSS from a brawling faction into a blasting force from Hell. The C-Type Shinobi come with a built-in blast boost die. If there’s an Elite in the pack, that’s two dice per model. Now add the Katana with its red High Impact, and suddenly the Shinobi are boasting 3 blast boost dice each, firepower equal to the much bemoaned G-1 Strike Fighters led by Sky Sentinel. And while the SSS units are slower and can’t fly, they have higher DEF and can move even faster than the G-1s with the proper use of Skyscrapers and Shadow Gates. The C-Type/Katana combo also offers a lot of flexibility thanks to their blast triggers. When shooting at a monster, lead the attack with a Shinobi to take advantage of Disrupt and Power Drain. Your opponent will lose a power die outright and might even have to pay the Hyper cost again. Against units, lead the attack with a Katana to take them all out with Chain Reaction and rake in loads of power dice for yourself. If you want to be even more obnoxious, add a Shadow Gate at the back of the formation to give them all Cloak.

Loving the MonsterPocalypse videos. I’m hoping I can get an opportunity to check it out first hand this weekend.
You really shouldn’t have tried to pronounce my name
Making videos for this is a great idea, it comes across a lot clearer than text. I look forward to more.
Cheesy but effective.
Good job on the vid!
Awesome video, well done guys. Love the t-shirt as well!
One quick question. When you move one Katana through the other, is that allowed? I’ve been diving into the rules until I my minis get in and I found a couple places which say that a figure can’t move through another figure unless the other figure has an ability that allows it.
Specifically, this appears in the errata under the region of “MOVEMENT THROUGH BUILDINGS”
Here’s the link in case anyone has trouble finding it.
Errata!
