I have been long awaiting this. For the masses of you who listen to the podcast and read my blog, you know that I have been drooling over Gakura for the past month or so. Today I am only more excited to get my hands on these apes! I am so excited.
Today Privateer blessed us with a preview of the Stealth Ape. Below you can see the pic, stats, and abilities:
Abilities: Cloak, Jump, Hit and Run(Brawl), Spotter
Cost: 1
Are you serious America? That’s awesome baby!
Let’s see what exactly we have on our hands here. Because this guy is a brawler, his reach equals his speed, which is 5. That’s not bad, but look at that first ability! Cloak makes this guy so much more viable. Then to compliment Cloak is Hit and Run. You can go brawl then step back 3 putting you just out of ’sight’. He also has jump, which is required (in my mind) to make a brawler even stand a chance at being on my list.
He has a solid 3 defense made even more solid with cloak and cover. It will be rare when your units cannot move 3 and find a building or friendly monster to gain cover from. His brawl stat is great as well. He has 1 *1 (man I love those natural b-die). This is complimented with Gakura who grants an additional b-die on brawl attacks. So if you are attacking with three of the stealth apes (or two with something else) you will be rolling 3 a-die and 6 b-die. This should hit around 6 on average and will definitely hit 5. Because of the last ability on this figure, spotter, the majority of opposing monsters will have 5 or 6 defense.
If you are just attacking a unit (depending on defense) you can throw one of these guys at the unit and be rolling 1 a-die and 2 b-die. Not bad (and let’s not forget about the command ape…).
Honestly I think that this is the best unit spoiled thus far. I don’t honestly know if this is because I am planning on using Gakura and hence my added excitement or because it really is an awesome unit. Thoughts?
You can pick up faction packs (pre-order) from Monsterpocalypse Now here.

Looks to me like the Apes are going to be the Shadow Sun of this wave. By that I mean the faction that gets all kinds of great abilities in good combinations. I don’t know if that’s a good thing or not.
This is, by far, one of the most solid pieces of evidence to show that Privateer is working hard to make Brawlers much more viable. Cloak is tough enough, but Cloak with Hit and Run is just plain mean.
It’s a little unfortunate that Spotter puts him within blasting range of whatever he’s “spotting” and that it doesn’t actually help him with his brawls.
I can say this, the Ape faction packs went straight out of stock along with King Kondo…
Nuts.
Yup, they should have called this set Monsterpocalypse BRAWL. As a guard player, I’m crying quietly on the inside.
Whooooo
I’ll be fielding at least one of these guys in my Terrasaur Force. How solid a unit can you make, PP?
Geez, that Spotter makes my Bellowers sing!
Spotter doesn’t work for brawls. This units is utter CARP fO SHE3ZY
I’m not trollin’!
As I said on the forums, this is the most solid unit to come out of Now!
This unit is decent. hit-and-run adds possibility of some P-dice from buildings but that 5 movement is not great. Yes rocket choppers only have 5 but they can at least benefit from their own blast and can stop on hazards/ water. Still, it is a good addition to the faction, not that they need it.
NERF DINOS!
