Just finished this monster… yeesh. I’m exhausted. Great stuff though.
Great Interview!
Fun fact: Meat of the Mountain was originally meant to do something ENTIRELY different. Its old rule text enabled a broken and unfun combodeck though and therefore the original MotM card was removed from the set and the other combo parts were severly changed.
So Josh needed to fill multiple card slots with different designs. As this was pretty late in the process, the time to check the new cards was short and therefore it wasnt realized that while the card would have worked alright with the old sets the new wacky design was equally broken and unfun with some cards from the new set (different ones than the ones used for the old combo).
Ironically the combo enabling rules text ended up on the card called “Meat of the Mountain” again.

So, should we expect a banning some time soon?
I believe that is what he was implying…
I was playing Magi-Nation from beginning to end, and my ears still perk up, at least metaphorically, every time someone mentions it. I still have my copy of The Dark Twins. And probably a couple thousand other cards. I miss playing that game.
I miss magi nation.
OK, so I listened and this was ALMOST worth missing a week of MonPocast. The information about the process in creating such a game, makes me glad I am in the comparatively unconvoluted business of tv and film.
And when I heard the Spoils universe was sort of “like something that Terry Gilliam”…suddenly I am about to involve myself in another game I definitely don’t have the time for, but luckily the other shoe dropped and what little free time I have was preserved… “and David Lynch would come up with.” Even with the David Lynch reference I will probably eventually give in to The Spoils, probably just to look at the cards(as I doubt I could get any of my buddies in to a CCG especially as much like me they don’t have the free time for anything other than MonPoc.) David Lynch does do a mean Quinoa cooking demo though…
