Maps!!! I can’t wait for the maps and to see what they look like. Steven it sounds like you dressed up like an oppressor?
Zach, looking back at your battle would you do anything different the next time you play? Given the same setup would you still try to pull off that double beatback attack?
Certainly not. Looking back, I probably would have just gone for the back to back monster turn to form Alpha Grindix. Even though I’d lose turn positioning, I would be pretty far ahead of the damage curve and could make it up the next turn with another back to back. Hoping I can win out and get paired against Dallas again.
Those first turn forming opportunities are so seductive that I often find myself getting caught up in the huge payoff and downplaying the odds in my decision-making, similar to first turn cross map for 4 damage turns that often leave opening for massive retaliations.
For the record, those attacks didn’t take into account Grindix’ distract, so the odds were even lower. Also, the “win” is great and all but I would have much rather played the game and risked a loss.
I’m with you Dallas. I’d rather get a complete game as opposed to an easy win.
Yeah, I noted distract after I missed and had conceded the game. Because I’m flying to California Friday, playing ZeeCon on Saturday, and will be busy Sunday, I didn’t know how much time I’d have to finish the game this week anyway. Seeing that you were significantly ahead at that point I went ahead and conceded so I could focus on single monster for Saturday.
Right on, I know we both have busy travel schedules this week and I acknowledged that at the end of our logfile. I was just bummed I didn’t get to play more monsterpocalypse!
good luck at Zeecon, again super bummed that I’m gonna miss it.
About the quote from Zach:”Red Flank is crazy on the monster”, Remember that Flank says “Other Figure” so Grindix can’t give himself flank, Flank must be coming from a figure not leading the attack. Another case for, “Boy when moles get installations…”
Regarding Forcing an opponent to cross. Sometimes.. the best thing to do is look at your building placement\Selection. I’ve found placing something like a Chrysler building/Tokoyo Triumph on your opponents side will sometimes “scare” your opponent into crossing. Another way to view it, If your opponent doesn’t deal with the threat it at least gives you a nice damage bump if you have to cross and make the first attack.
I was referring to the corruptor giving Grindix Flank, increasing it’s range significantly.
Right, so that allows your Units to use the Flank if Grindix is granted flank, but Grindix cannot get flank himself and brawl/use it.
So lets say the Corruptor is 3 spaces away from the enemy monster(IE behind Grindix), and Grindix gets the red flank.
Flank says:
Enemies within 2 spaces of this figure are -1 DEF from brawl attacks made by *other AGN figures.
So Grindix’s brawls are not -1 def due to flank.
Gotcha. Now, where exactly is Tim…
Good point about the Flank, that’s something that gets overlooked a lot. People think of it like penetrator. What’s crazy good is red overload on the curruptor. That with grind or lighting attack can be very nasty. I’ve never seen it done, but it’s possible.
The lightning attack, Sync Move, with overload can be juicy. You think you’re out of the way, but he moves one in and gets 2 damage on the second attack.
Wouldn’t you get the benefit of overload on the first attack as well?
Attack, synch move corruptor ajacent,
(still in your trigger phase and now you have overload)
overload, then lightning attack
Correct.
This guy is built in the old style.
7/5 healing with a movement ability.
Situation super damage and situational screen pull is icing on the cake.
Best Quantum imo.
Ultra Grindix is no match for Mega. Ultra is FUN to play, but in no way is he any match for the Mega. I think Grind is not only hard to pull off but is also a sort of trap… you WANT to pull off the big Grind so you work the rest of your game around trying to pull a huge Grind.
