He Said, He Said: Community Conflagration!
By Team Covenant– January 12, 2012
It’s a small wonder that the MonPoc community is still alive and well when it consists of so many creative, imaginative, and active members such as we have around Team Covenant. It is from you that we have much to discuss. So, just to keep up, we need an entire podcast to simply talk about some of the fantastic blogs and happenings that have being going on over just the last week.
Here’s to you!
If you have any topics you would like to hear discussed or would like to come on and discuss yourself, please leave us a comment, or send me an email at robert@teamcovenant.com or just drop Steven or I a line at our respective pages (http://teamcovenant.com/botounami/ or http://teamcovenant.com/galactus/). We’d love to hear from you.

I am not a monster, I am a person who plays with various monsters.
Behind the “poker” is another red hot “poker”. And of course behind that is about 50 million Slim Jims.
I assure you whatever I wrote would not be boring, but would likely not be suitable for most audiences.
It’s fun to “errata” things, but how practical is it really? I think a better place to start is in the wording of abilities as opposed to changing actual values. I love the smell of pragmatism in the morning, smells like… possibility.
I agree. I don’t think looking at the numbers really helps…that’s too integral to how the monster/unit is built. If you want to get that deep into changing things, it’s better to start from scratch and build a new figure.
But abilities can always be tinkered with, because in nearly every case of a figure being OP or weak, it’s because of how the abilities it has works. Frequent target of my criticism, Tornadus, for instance: It’s not that she’s so good, it’s that she’s so good AND ANYONE CAN PLAY WITH HER. Make her Faction/Agenda only, and she gets less OP. Give Character units Fragile, and she gets less OP.
Character units should be AGN(or Faction if the fantasy of Rise block Character Units ever comes to fruition). Fragile… that’s going a little far, I think, unless you make the Cthulabite, Bellower, Razor Beetle, etc. also Fragile. No one would ever include say Ral Kurrilik if it was Fragile.
AGN-only makes Tornadus a GUARD weapon — that makes an already great faction even more relatively superior, by weakening all adversaries who might use Tornadus to extend their unit blast reach with FLING to help fight REPAIR and deny “turtle up and win” as a game-plan. Moles in particular can make use of Tornadus to run a pretty strong game… sure Tornadus is everywhere, but it has NOT been detrimental in any way. It has fixed a weak spot in the game, not created one like with some other units that see/saw rampant splashing.
I have a problem with FAC-only for the same reason, but it’s definitely more reasonable than saying “no more Tornadus for everyone… except for GUARD, who gets to keep that gem”. I would definitely be able to swallow FAC-only for character units. AGN-only would remove the faith I have in people; it’s pretty much the exact opposite of helpful to the game.
The solution IMO is to give factions/agendas their own “Tornadus-like unit”. Restore AA’s monster-hitting potential for Terrasaurs/Apes. Give moles something like a SUMMON unit. (I think Cthul will be OK without much help.) It wouldn’t take that much in unit additions, so long as they were intelligently designed ones.
And once we have them, it’d be ok to make Tornadus FAC-only.
You know, I may actually listen to this episode… I kid, I kid, I am your most faithful listener/slave.
“I kid, I kid” Reminds me of Triumph! lol this was a good podcast……. FOR ME TO POOP ON!
Thanks for the shout-out TC dudes! On mega Raiden and Voltis – yeah I could totally see them at 3 hyper. I was really on the fence with them when I hit publish. On mega CK and RK – yes they’d still be on the lower end of the monster power curve but have you faced these robo-beasts in multi-monster? When I did these adjustments I had multi-monster on my mind as much as single. So, some monsters that still don’t seem like they’d be “all that” in single might be a revelation in multi. A prime example in an upcoming blog will be Mega Blastik.
And I’ll say that I’m loving Lester’s errata project so far. Lots of cool, creative and most of all FUN looking ideas.
Listened the cast this morning guys! Thanks for the in-depth shout-out and review! There are some typos that made certain things a little unclear… Ultra Aquosia is supposed to have 6 defense not 7 and red quick. Mega Aquosia is supposed to have 7 defense, not 6. Anyway, I’ll mark more clearly next time what I have added, maybe putting adds in brackets or something. Also, the problems will be addressed tonight!
