A storm is coming in Luridia...

Rarely do you expect a serious update on a weekend… but the guys over at The Spoils website are really heating things up lately! A brand new SEED 3 preview hit the official website this morning: Geisric, the Souleater.

This card is definitely interesting. With a cost of 3 (and 3 threshold) he’s not useful to the standard arcanist splash. However, for a deck like purple haze this a serious removal boost along with card draw. Even in a token deck this guy could be pretty solid. Can Haze compete with the speed of Rage?

The full article, by none other than Neil Crompton, can be found here.

“He has faces beyond count, little one, as many faces as there are stars in the sky. In Braavos, men worship as they will… but at the end of every road stands Him of Many Faces, waiting. He will be there for you one day, do not fear. You need not rush to his embrace.”
–The Kindly Man, A Feast for Crows

Fantasy Flight Games is pleased to announce the upcoming release of The House of Black and White, the fifth Chapter Pack for A Game of Thrones: The Card Game to arrive from Beyond the Narrow Sea!

For years, during and after the war, Arya Stark recited a nightly prayer. It was a list of names. They were the people who had done the most harm to her and to her family and whom she most wished dead. For a long time, her prayers went unanswered. Her father’s northern gods failed her. The seven gods of the southrons were no help. But in Braavos, at last, Arya thought she found the god she sought, the Many-Faced God of death, the god of the House of Black and White.

At the End of Every Road

The House of Black and White introduces sixty new cards (three copies each of twenty different cards) that further enrich the Beyond the Narrow Sea cycle and its exploration of the people, places, and events of Essos. Of course, Arya Stark (The House of Black and White, 81) and The House of Black and White (The House of Black and White, 82) feature prominently in the Chapter Pack, but players will also find a host of high-impact new locations for each House, as well as an arsenal of Weapons and other attachments.

George R.R. Martin’s fantasy series, A Song of Ice and Fire, is a sweeping epic that details the machinations of several Houses and spans both years and continents. However, it is simultaneously an intimately personal tale that traces the impacts that the story’s key events make upon its main characters. Some die. All change.

The House of Black and White allows you to change your characters (and your opponent’s) with a handful of House-specific attachments. Meanwhile, players who favor the saga’s unique personalities will find deadly new tools in The House of Black and White to help them cut through opponents’ non-unique minions. Though all must eventually find their way to the Many-Faced God, some may first live in such a way as to merit a song, or to shape the conquest of Westeros.

Revenge!

Arya found her way to the House of Black and White, seeking revenge for the deaths of her friends and family members. Now, as the Great Houses play their game of thrones, will Arya Stark be able to draw upon her lessons from The House of Black and White to slay her foes?

Look for Arya Stark, The House of Black and White, and a host of other locations, characters, attachments, and events to redefine the nature of revenge when The House of Black and White releases in the third quarter of 2012!

This chapter pack is already available for pre-order through the store, so you can be sure to have it delivered to your front door as soon as possible. Or you can ensure you get this and all future chapter packs as part of the Chapter Pack Program.

Cowboys & Indians:

Single list event.

One (1) tournament legal monster with respective hyper form.

Only one side of one map may be used.

The player who selects the map may not choose their opponent’s map.

This is a team event. All teams must have 3 players.

At the beginning of each round, each team is paired against another team.

Once paired, each team sits across from its opposing team.

All 3 members of each team roll 5 Action Die during the “Showdown”.

The team that rolled the most strikes across all 15 Action Die plays the Cowboy.

The other team plays the Indian.

The Indian always chooses map and goes second.

A player playing as the Cowboy wins if all buildings are destroyed.

Indestructible buildings can be destroyed.

Installations can be attacked by allied figures. Standard attacking rules apply.

A player playing as the Indian wins if the Cowboy loses all health in both forms.

If the Indian loses all health in both forms, he or she is immediately placed in a legal Monster starting zone.

During gameplay, all other standard Monsterpocalypse rules apply.

Once time is called, the Indian gets two points per point of health missing from the Cowboy, while the Cowboy gets one point per building destroyed. The highest point total wins.

Attica:

Single list event.

One (1) tournament legal monster with respective hyper form.

A single double-sided map from which the player may use either side.

The player who selects the map may choose their opponent’s map.

Standard building (2-12) and unit (5-15) complement.

There is no spawn tax. You can include any unit in your force at no penalty.

Any ability that refers to “FAC” or “AGN” instead refers to “Allied”.

Examples:

High Impact – If this unit is the same faction as your monster, this unit gains +1 Blast B-Die.

Becomes: High Impact – If this unit is allied with your monster, this unit gains +1 Blast B-Die.

Blue Abilities – If an Ability is Blue, then every Figure in your Force that is the same Agenda as the Figure that has the Blue Ability gains the Ability.

Becomes: Blue Abilities – If an Ability is Blue, then every Figure allied with the Figure that has the Blue Ability gains the Ability.

Quick – If this figure is the same Faction as your monster, this figure may advance without spending an A-Die.

Becomes: Quick – If this figure is allied with your monster, this figure may advance without spending an A-Die.

Things that mention certain agendas specifically, like Underground Network and Superstructure do not change, as they don’t use the FAC/AGN terminology.

Any installation may be used in a force, but only 5 total installations may be included.

For gameplay, all other standard Monsterpocalypse rules apply.

No “Glass” type units may be used in a player’s force.

All units in a player’s force function as though they are Fragile.

Fragile reads: “If this Unit is crushed or destroyed, remove it from the game instead of putting it in your Unit Reserves.”

Players may only include units belonging to the same agenda as their chosen monster.

Players must include 5 elite units.

Before the setup dice are rolled, players must switch forces with their opponent.

For gameplay, all other standard Monsterpocalypse rules apply.

Three Player Tango:

Triple list event (can bring three lists to the table).

One (1) tournament legal monster with respective hyper form.

Map will be provided.

Standard building (2-12) and unit (5-15) complement.

Before setup dice are rolled, each player reveals the list he or she is playing simultaneously.

All lists can be examined by all players before they are revealed.

Whoever rolls the highest on the setup roll places the first building, followed by whoever rolled the second-highest, and then finally whoever rolled the lowest.

The order is maintained for color-selection, initial monster placement, and gameplay.

For gameplay, standard Monsterpocalypse rules apply with a few exceptions. The winner of the match is the last monster standing.

Reactions can be triggered on either opponent’s turn.

Any skill that affects “your opponent” affects both opponents (Media Hub, City Hall, etc)

Negative zones affect both opponents.

And of course, Fresh Ground Monster will maintain its mysterious and surprise nature and will be announced at MonCon itself. Please ask for any clarifications!

Just this morning we got another web blarg from lead designer Ken Pilcher in which he revealed the official name of the next full set: Shade of the Devoured Emperor! Along with the name reveal, we found out that once that set releases draft will officially become three packs of Shade and sealed will become six packs of Shade! With that in mind, Ken discusses the importance of balancing the current constructed format as well as producing a set that really does justice to a Spoils sealed pool.
Talk to me.

MonCon is all about Monsterpocalypse, that’s a given. But everyone whose been knows that it’s really about the people who make the game tick. For MonCon 2012, this is the focus – perhaps more than ever.

Last year Clay and Billy regaled us with a panel about painting Monsterpocalypse figures. The panel was not only informative, but also an enjoyable connection with two of Monpoc’s finest. It was at that moment that we knew this kind of thing needed to happen again. Having celebrities and special guests at conventions might draw the crowds, but to us, there’s nothing better than having members of the community share their knowledge. It just seems more real that way.

You’ll notice in the schedule that there is a slot on Friday night from 9PM-11PM for Panels. These will be held in the “casual” area of MonCon, and will be a great place to wind down at the end of the night. There’s only one problem – we need a few enterprising community members to lead them!

So we’re opening the floor to you, MonCon participants, and allowing you all the chance to share your knowledge, passion, understanding, or even just your entertaining nature with the rest of us. This might mean a talk about painting, or modding your figures. It might mean Lester presenting all of his proposed errata. It might mean Froggies doing a war room style map lecture or Eric showing us his process for creating beautiful Monpoc art. It might even be Nathan Camp doing an hour of standup comedy. Who knows? Anything is possible, and we’d really like for those willing to run with the idea.

So here’s the gist. If you’d like to lead one of these panels or if you’d like to see a specific panel, send an email to steven@teamcovenant.com with the nature of what you’re looking to do or wanting to see. If we get a lot of entries, we’ll consider altering the schedule or having a TC vote for what makes it in. Really, about any subject goes here. If there’s something you really enjoy and would like to share, this is your chance. I personally would love a presentation on Project V, but that’s just me…

We’re starting to get supremely geared up for MonCon 2012 (more info). Not only is it going to be a reconnection between all of the past attendees, but also a grand welcome to the various online personalities who are making the trip for the first time. On top of that, we’ve been working hard to build the Monsterpocalypse community growing around the Covenant Store, and the new players should provide a fresh influx of Monsterpocalypse wonder and fanaticism to the convention. I’ve got a feeling this is going to be the best MonCon yet, but what can I say…I always think that.

Hit me with those panel suggestions and get those armies built! Next update will be a description of each event so that you can all build your forces ahead of time.

Stay Monstrous,
Steven
