And so the first week of play testing is over…
Due to work and a short hospital visit with one of my boys, I didn’t get to play
as many games as I would of wanted.
So instead of going through all my games, I will be highlighting some of the builds
that I enjoyed and think might make it to the later stages of play testing.
First up was the generic build of the XXBB
Two Rookies and two Blues with HLC.
This was to be my first game with the new B-wings… and it showed.
My intial thoughts are that the stats on it is great, but the dial….
oh the dial is something to get use to.
But I did get to see how it went vs a 4 ship build.
My Thoughts: It’s a solid work horse of a build. Nothing sneaky about what it can do.
It’s got 26 damage points it can take, with a nice spread of fire power.
Next up is the always fun Tie Swarm!
I tried two builds of this…. One using the named ties and the other using howl,
Black, backstabber and a few AP.
Things that i learnt from this are that I need to pickup my maneuvering skills when using
7 ships. The amount of firepower that this squad can put out can be impressive, and can quickly overrun a 3 ship build quickly. Even against a medium base, they do great.
But they have their weakness. 360 firing arcs hurt when the green dice go cold.
It’s possible for the opponent to take out one or two quickly then start to dominate.
This list NEEDS to get an alpha kill to pile on the pressure.
My question is… is howlrunner a must for a swarm, or is just strength in numbers
enough for them to get over the line? Without howlrunner, i have more options in spacing and
Last list for this week is one i have really been wanting to tryout.
The four Bomber build
In this case its Jonus with 3 bombers, all with 2 missiles each.
The dials for the bombers are great, and on the alpha, can wipe out any ship it wants
if all are in range. Against dual falcon / BH builds, this is amazing.
3 ships builds also suffer. My only concern is a 7-8 tie swarm though
I do have two assaults and a Seismic charge to help.
Ships that aren’t going to make it.
The lambada…. I’m sorry, but after 5-6 games with it… its just not good.
All you have to do is fly behind it and its dead.
The Firespray. It’s just not for me…. though I might give it one more shot,
using two of them, both having recon specialist.
So that’s last week’s summary. What i have come from it is that i like builds that have enough shields/hull to last a few rounds.
Until next week
