My Kessel Run Event
By mrfroggies– January 28, 2013
After watching the TC video for there Kessel Run event, I thought I would post about the Kessel Run I went to. The event that I went to was at Dice Age Games. It was a good size store with lots of space to play games. I think there was around 16 to 20 people at the event, which was great, as my local group has been around 4 to 6 people. I went with a 3 ship rebel build. Here’s my list that I took

Round 1
It’s been a while sense the event, so I don’t remember my opponents name, but I think my first opponents name was James. He was a really nice guy and he played very well. He was running a 4 ship Imperial build with Wedge, Dutch and 2 rookies. In the opening as we moved forward toward each other, he had some colisions so Dutch wasn’t able to get and give an extra target lock. This really helped me out. My Wedge shot at his Dutch and I took down all of his shields and gave him the injured pilot crit which makes Dutch lose his ability. That was a big hit deal for me. Horton and the Rookie took out 1 of his Rookie Pilots, but he took out my Wedge. After some tricky maneuvers on my part I was able to take out his other Rookie with my Rookie Pilot, and Horton got a finishing shot on Dutch. On the Next round His Wedge was near the edge of the board with no shot, and I was able to get a Ion hit on him with Horton. Next turn he moved off the board. Full win for me.
Round 2:
I can’t remember the name of the person I played in the second round but he was a very nice guy. He played a 4 ship rebel build with 2 X-Wings and 2 Y-Wings. He had Wedge and Dutch and I think Rookies of the other two. This match started off really bad for me. He took out my Wedge on our first attack, and then Horton on the next attack. I had taken out his rookie X-wing. I thought I was dead at this point. Then a miracle happened. His rookie Y-Wing flew off the board, and I took out Dutch with my Rookie. Now it was my Rookie against his Wedge, but I had a Proton Torpedo and R2-D2. I was able to do a K-Turn and be out of his firing arch. I shot up his shields some. Next turn I moved forward and fixed my shields back to full and put a target lock on him. He did a K-turn. He shot off one of my shields, but I finished him with my PT. Woot, another Full win.
Round 3
I remember the name of my oppoent this round because his name is Scott. Kind of made it easy for me to remember. In this round I was able to play against one of the 2 Imperial players at the event. I was very happy about this. I enjoy the game more when I’m shooting down Tie Fighters. This game went my way from the beginning. In my first attack I took out his Howlrunner, and an Academy Pilot. Darth rolled blanks on his attack, and Maarek Stele missed with his Cluster Missiles. After that Horton got behind Maarek, and Ioned him to death, while my Wedge and Rookie hounded Darth. I was able to catch Darth on a K-Turn when he wasn’t able to do actions. I got 2 good shots off on him for the Kill.
At this point I have 3 full wins along with Ben who also had 3 full wins. We were allowed to pick which side we wanted, and as a Rebel guy I had to go with the Lando and the A-Wings. I thought the Imperial side was better, but I wanted to stick to the good guys.
My dice tray really helped me out.

Way to go, Froggies! Glad to see you got some positive results using Horton Salami.
Dude – you owned this one! Impressive!
Holy cow Scott! I wish my dice rolls were that good. Thanks for the video. I liked watching your after TCs. I thought it was funny I use my tray too, but with my wiked english in my throw, I have a hard time landing them all in the tray. Oops! ;O
I’m not sure my dice were that good, I think his rolls were that bad. It’s fun to watch this now, and look at the things I could do different.
Yeah, it’s rolls like that which put me off the game. It’s fine when it happens now and again, but it seemed like that was happening to me all the time and I always saw a ton of evades on the other side. I’ll have to give it another shot once Wave 2 gets here and I have A-Wings and Interceptors to play with.
When your rolling for attacks and defenses, dice are always a factor. In Monpoc it’s a static defense so rolls for offense is the only factor. In X-Wing you have rolls for both so luck can play a big part of it. If I roll really good on offense and he rolls really bad on defense, then the tide of battle can swing very quickly. Having played this game a lot, I have found luck to be a small part of the game. Good Maneuvering trumps everything.
