SWLCG OCTGN Tournament – Round 1!
By Matthew– March 1, 2013
Thank you everyone for participating in the tournament. Just below, you will find your first round pairings. But before we get to those, there are a few things to go over:
Rules
The tournament will be run using the rules from the FFG Official Tournament Guide with the following exceptions:
-I’m participating without a 2nd TO. The nature of the online tournament makes it so that I won’t really be a resource for rulings anyways.
-If a rules dispute does come up, you can try to PM me, but feel free to use any other resources, including the FFG Rules Questions forum
-Instead of flipping a coin to determine starting side, I will randomly assign them. If you and your opponent mutually agree on another way to pick starting sides, feel free to use that instead.
-No time limit
Logistics
-There will be 4 rounds of Swiss, followed by a cut to Top 4 and elimination rounds.
-Both players should report scores to me via PM. As this is a new score system for all of us, both players should submit which player won each game, the number of objectives each player destroyed, and the position of the Death Star dial for each game
-The participating players are responsible for arranging the exact play time for games. If you are having trouble, please let me know so that I can try to help out.
-As per the normal tournament rules, no changes to your decks will be allowed between rounds. You are on your honor for this one.
-I encourage you to take plenty of notes during your matches. And then, at the end of the tournament to post a tournament report. Also, while I will not require deck lists to be posted, I do suggest posting your decks and your results afterwards. The more information out there, the better everyone can get.
-If you don’t want to post notes, check out the comments section for an easy way to record your matches.
-I will be enlisting my wife’s help for randomizing things. I will be printing out actual score cards for each player and randomizing via shuffling just as I would in a real-life tournament.
-OCTGN is good, but not perfect. Watch for errors in its automation. Also, be careful to allow your opponent time to perform actions in the action windows.
-Similarly, have patience with your opponent working with OCTGN. Some people (including myself) have just installed it within the last week in order to do this.
-If you’re one of the people who I don’t know the FFG Forum username for, please let me know (or make an account). It will help you in contacting your opponent for the round and arranging the games.
Prizes
Bragging rights! Unless somebody comes up with a better idea or Team Covenant wants to make us a badge or some such thing.

I’d like to have this round finished by the end of the day on Wednesday, 3/6/2013 Just got a message that somebody is out of town until the 9th. Let’s try to have everyone else done by then and I’ll get round two posted as soon as I receive that last match. Don’t hesitate to let me know if you’re having any problems or have any questions. Good luck to everyone!

Total LS Game Wins: 6 Total DS Game Wins: 8

What I can also suggest is for people to record your matches. You can download an open source recorder: http://obsproject.com/
And then make an account on twitch.tv and record your matches there for posterity. I already do this for games I play (although I haven’t played any SW:LCG yet) and it works great: http://www.twitch.tv/dbzer0/videos
and if you don’t want your opponents to see your deck during the tournament, you can make your channel private until the tournament is concluded (or you drop out)
Give it a try, much easier than taking notes
And I just found where I could “approve” this comment. Once again, no idea why it needed it… I’ve never needed to approve a comment before (as evidenced by me not knowing how to do that).
It’s because I had more than 1 link in my comment
Ah, well I’m sorry it took me so long to figure out how to approve it. At least in the future I’ll know what to watch for.
Not to add to the confusion too much, but since this is posted here, you could add our TC names and links to message..
I thought about that, but I had more people who I knew that FFG username and not the TC for than the other way around. I’ll try something almost as good…
Well it would have been nice to get some practice games in before my Rd 1 match-up but some players like to leave the game if the first edge battle doesn’t go their way…
This is not specifically directed towards any player, but I’ve had three people leave tonight after losing/getting twisted, during the opening edge battle
I can’t really help you there, but if it happens during the tournament that would be considered to be conceding the game.
If the same player did that repeatedly, they would be warned for unsportsmanlike conduct.
I know, just frustrated is all.
One thing that I noticed that keeps causing an issue with OCTGN is when Recon Mission gets destroyed. The program lowers the LS reserve value not the DS for whatever reason.
What should be done in the case that this gets missed and the DS players draws up to 7, instead of 6?
Correct it as soon as noticed. If the DS player currently has 7 cards in hand, they should shuffle the most recently drawn one (the card on the far right) back into their deck. Now that it’s a known problem, hopefully we can avoid future problems with it.
Someone could let me know about this stuff
Here’s one other error I’ve seen:
-A Disturbance in the Force should only place focus tokens on enemy units, it currently places them on your own units as well
Huh, don’t know why but I had originally read it as affecting all units. Fixed now.
Thanks! Do we have to download anything to get the fix or will it automatically update?
This one is automatic.
I just got a message that James Johnes (yobo93) will have to drop from the tournament. He will be converted to a bye.
My comment is awaiting moderation since the 1st
Sorry, no idea what happened there. Also, I’ll try to compile a list of glitches in the automation for you.
Been having issues with the conflict phase. It won’t let me strike any objectives that are targeted:(
I’ll try to get on sometime tonight and maybe play a few turns to trouble shoot if you can’t figure it out.
Make sure you update to the latest file version for the game engine on OTCGN, my opponent and I were on 2 different versions last night, it worked, but was a drag to jump around phases
Yeah, I’ve had that happen to me a couple of times. It gets pretty annoying.
We ready for Round 2 yet?!?!?
I wish we were, but if you look up at the results (which are completely up-to-date), you’ll see that we’re still missing several match scores. I’m hoping to have them all by the end of the weekend and get round 2 posted Monday or Tuesday…
Edit: I did send messages to all of the participants who I hadn’t heard from this morning. If I don’t hear anything at all from them by the end of the weekend I may just have to call it a timed game and post round 2…
