Tourney of the False Spring (Tentative Tourney for the Winter Hand Rules)
By Jacob Kern– January 25, 2013
Submitting Your Deck
Use CardGameDB or the OCTGN Deck Editor to save your deck as an .08d file (OCTGN). Whether or not you play on OCTGN will not matter as the deck submissions will be sent to a third party moderator (most likely Steven). We will set up an e-mail address for him to receive the files.
Deck Guidelines
All decks must adhere to regular tournament rules. That means 1 restricted card per deck, no more than 3 copies of a card, etc. In addition, this tournament WILL NOT INCLUDE the new cycle. Only cards printed up to and including A Roll of the Dice will be legal.
Rounds 1-2
The first round will consist of random pairings. This is the fairest way to kick off any tournament. Round 2 will pair like records. This tournament is DOUBLE ELIMINATION, which means if your record is 0-2 after the second round, you’re out, at least until the Wild Card mini-tourney (see below).
Rounds 3-X
Depending on the number of players, like records will be paired (“Swiss” style, if I’m not mistaken) for X amount of rounds, consisting of single elimination. When it gets down to the “Final Four,” the winner of the Wild Card mini-tourney (see below) will challenge the Final Four player of his or her choice for that player’s spot.
Wild Card Mini-Tourney
Those players eliminated after the first 2 rounds will have a chance to redeem their honor! All players with a 0-2 record by Round 3 will be paired randomly in their own “Wild Card” mini-tournament. The winner will get the chance to challenge and win a spot in the “Final Four.” All decks used in the Wild Card tournament must be the same as the participant’s original submission.
Comments/Suggestions
Please leave any comments or suggestions below, and if we all agree to the above terms, let’s have Theorist work his magic for the Round 1 pairings. Also, let us know if you want to moderate the deck submissions. It would be a huge help in keeping this tournament as legit as possible.

I’m ok with submitting a deck via OCTGN but some people are using Mac’s and can’t run OCTGN. Just an observation. Would just a deck list not be simpler?
Nevermind.. I guess with using CardgameDB you can do it still as you mention. Just never used it that way before.
Yeah, you can export straight from CGDB to an .o8d file. It would just make it easier than a bunch of lists being e-mailed or posted on TC.
I’m in. Do I need to PM Theorist or anything to officially enroll?
I messaged him and hopefully he will post a new article for official sign-ups and Round 1 pairings.
But I suppose this thread can be used for early sign-ups haha. I’m obviously in. Anyone else who’s in, just reply here so we can get an early head count.
When you build and save a deck on CGDB your Deck titile should include your name, house, and agenda you are playing. Makes it easy to keep up with.
I would also say that you can’t switch out any cards between rounds. Make this just like a real tournament. Those are my suggestions.
oh, and I’m certainly playing.
Would there be some way to keep the deck files unedited? Like whoever receives the submissions would redistribute players’ own deck files before each round or game?
Or maybe it would work best with Dropbox or Google Drive, some sort of collaborative, web-based cloud storage… If this idea is overkill, stop me right now, but it may not actually be too hard to setup. However, the moderator’s job would become significantly more involved… Just thinking (typing) out loud here, obviously any suggestions are welcome!
To go a little bit further with that thought… Anyone know of a cloud storage service that would allow each user to submit a file to a shared folder, while keeping the file itself private? Would there be a way to do this within the TC site?
Well if nobody else is going to…
Stop it, Jacob. lol
Haha, I agree. if only there was a way to set something like that up within OCTGN itself… until then, it’s just asking too much.
Sounds good!
Im in, how do i sign up ?
