Wappy New Year; it’s time for the MNM VII Semi-Finals!
By wapcaplets– January 2, 2013
Happy new year, everyone! I hope you all had a great Christmas & New Year’s season with friends & family. But, now that the presents have all been opened, the ball in Times Square has dropped, the Christmas trees are out on the curb, and Ryan Seacrest has been put in storage for another year it is time to get back to the championship rounds of Monday Night Monster VII! Here are the results from the quarter final round:
- Marcus Utley (Seed #1, Ultra Tyrannix) defeated Colin Atkinson (Seed #8, Ultra Phobos-7)
- Louis Brenton (Seed #7, Mega Voltron) defeated Gary Hall (Seed #2, Ultra Ulgoth)
- VolkenVaderland (Seed #6, Ultra Zor-Voltis) defeated Israel Brenton (Seed #3, Mega Zor-Macros)
- Scott Williams (Seed #4, Mega Mucustos) defeated Theorist (Seed #5, Mega Armodax)
These log files will be posted to the MNM VII Wiki Page very shortly (if they’re not there already) and are all great matches to watch and extremely hard-fought battles. Congratulations to our final four of Marcus Utley, Scott Williams, VolkenVaderland, and Louis Brenton! The semi-final matchups, with the winners of each going on to compete for the MNM VII championship title, will be:
- THE OLD GUARD:Marcus Utley (Ultra Tyrannix) vs. Scott Williams (Mega Mucustos)
- THE NEW BLOOD: VolkenVaderland (Ultra Zor-Voltis) vs. Louis Brenton (Mega Voltron)
Personally, I am very excited about the way that this bracket has shaken out. In the “OLD GUARD” bracket we have two former MNM Champions facing off against each other. Regardless of who wins, there will be a former MNM Champion in the final match facing a player competing for a championship for the first time. Will we see the second ever two-time MNM champion or a brand new face etched in MonPoc Mount Rushmore???
Many of us (myself included) are still in holiday mode so I’m going to make the deadline for this round midnight eastern time on Sunday, January 20th. I think that I speak for everyone when I say that I want to sit in and watch these matches so if the participants could please make it known ahead of time when the matches will take place that would be much appreciated!

I’m super excited about this round, and can’t wait to play against Marcus. Marcus and I have a long history of some great games against each other, and I hope this next one will live up to the past.
As for the New Blood, Go Team Brenton.
Team Brenton, eh? In that case, Go Volken!
Marcus and I will have our match on Sat, Jan 19th at 12:30pm PDT. Sorry for the long wait, but both Marcus and I have family coming into town.
Old Guard or New Blood…mmm…I vote for Blood of the Old Guard!
Old Guard drenched in New Blood
Ok…so…Old Guard drenched in New Blood from a fresh wound on another Old Guard…got it. Something tells me this can go on for a while.
Wow, a great looking Final Four! Looks like some great matches, too. Those are some powerhouse monsters.
I’m going to play Prognosticator a little…and I admit, I’m more than a little biased here, but I say Marcus beats Froggies, and Volk squeaks past Louis.
I see Voltis vs Voltron as the closer match, as both hyper forms can pull off high damage attacks, although Voltron needs to be closer. The edge may be in Voltron’s favor, if he can land a solid Toss attack at the right time. But I think Voltis’ mobility will limit that, and the clones will prevail.
Tyrranix v Mucostos is a trickier prediction. Tyrranix has all the offensive edge here, with beat back negating the turtle strategy to some degree, and Radicals’ unit domination further making that strategy limited. Powerstrike and a quirky Vassal roll falling on Super Strikes may be enough to force Marcus off his game, but outside that, I see Radicals making it to the finals.
I’m also leaning towards Tyrranix takes it all. Yes, Marcus really is a master with him, but I’m leaning that way more because of the monster than the pilot.
At the moment I’m still in my OMG-I’m-So-Dead phase of my match planning. I’ll get to my I-can-DO-this only later – like the angry German kid, so no predictions for my own match. But barring me doing something stupid I think it will be a close match either way.
Mr. Mike vs Israel this Saturday January 12th @ 10am Central time (assuming there’s no daylight savings at the moment).
I think you mean Louis.
Yes, that one.
OK. Louis’s gotz the plague. Our game is now also slated for Saturday the 19th, again 10am Central.
Depending on how long our game takes (and how long I “ummm” with my turns), our game may overlap w/ Scott/Marcus’s game a bit.
The Wiki is up to date with all of the last rounds games.
I’m new. What are vlogs and how do I watch them? Are they part of Vassal?
Did a google search and answered my own question. Trying to figure out how to install Vassal for MonPoc now.
Found the link. http://teamcovenant.com/blog/2010/07/22/monsterpocalypse-online-vassal-mod-2-61/
If you go here you can get all the Vassal mods.

The Wiki has all the logs for the games that were played. If you get a chance you should check out some of these games being played. When I first started out, I learned a lot from watching people play and looking at some of these log files.
Got Vassal installed. Got module loaded. Got vlog loaded. I can step through text that describes actions.
How do I view the action? What brings up the display?
The map is displayed underneath the text line. You may need to manually extend the view. You can pop the map out, I think, although I never do.
THANK YOU!
That simple thing was driving me nuts!
But now the map is black. I can see the units and monsters, but I can’t see the map. uUgghhh….
You may have to scroll left to see the game, or just try adjusting your view.
If that doesn’t work my guess is that you don’t have the current version of the MonPoc Module. The newest version is 3.4
Nope. I’ve got 2.61. Looking for the new hotness. Thanks!
The latest I see is 2.65. Where can I score 3.4? http://www.vassalengine.org/wiki/Module:Monsterpocalypse
I tired 2.65. Still no map in the background. I’m using Vassal 3.1.14
Might be your Vassal version. I’m on 3.1.15, which is not the latest, and I get some odd glitches, but can generally play through them. 3.1.14 might just not be compatible enough.
All the links for the newest version of Vassal is here.
