By Zach Bunn– April 26, 2012
In this weeks episode, Tim and I go in depth on what the first few weeks of our journeyman league has been like, compare it to our past experience, and also touch on some of the exciting releases scheduled this year for Warmachine and Hordes. Biggest tip from the week: make sure you know which model is your opponents warcaster!

You can complain about Madrak’s mini-feat when you take away Eyeless Sight, Witch Mark and Deneghra’s insane debuffs.
kthxbai!
Haha. I’m not saying legion isn’t also broken.
He has to decide before taking the damage….so you’re free to use that Fury you would have spent boosting the attack to make another attack. When facing a Carnivean, the scroll usually does little to help.
I’d complain more about Tough. But that’s because little I play has it.
It’s really the combination of all those factors that matters. Madrak on 1 fury = 1 transfer, 1 damage immunity, and tough. His odds of surviving are pretty good. He’s just really good at not being assassinated.
Madrak is a survivor, as all trolls want to be with Tough. He can be countered, of course, but his biggest trait is staying power with Sure Foot and the above-mentioned abilities.
Then again, he doesn’t tend (in my experience) to excel at assassinating enemy casters himself. Still, I think you’ll really start to hate him once you start seeing Champions on the table with his Sure Foot. And once you have some units for his feat to mow through, he starts looking better.
There’s also a decent amount of abilities that can counter tough around, so it’s not really as nasty as I make it out to be. But Phil’s right: Trollbloods define hard to kill. That’s what they do…and after you fail to kill them, they get up and stomp you.
When Gorten (Rhulic Merc battle box – no longer in print, but legal for Journeyman League) goes from Battle Box to 15 points, he has 7 points to spend.
One of our players is using Gorten. It’s been very cool to play against all the factions.
What is he playing at 15 points? I hope battlebox + Thor Steinhammer and minimum Horgenhold Forgeguard.
I don’t think I lost a game with Gorten until 25 points when we did our Journeyman last year.
I’m not sure what he is using. I haven’t played his 15 point list yet. Will let you know when I do (or when I see him play).
I had no trouble with Gorten
Steven – some day you and I will have to play, and I will see if I can change your opinion.
You played Retribution battle box?
Heh, ja, Gorten is pretty much an auto-win at 15pts unless something terribly wrong is happening.
Ravagore a mini Carnivean? You’re comparing apples and hamburger. They fill totally different roles within the army.
What’s fun is taking both. Drop Dragon’s Fire on a Carnivean, drop pLylyth’s feat, charge with the Carni and angle the Assault attack to hit as many enemy figures as possible. You’re rolling RAT 4 on 3d6, and whatever you hit and don’t kill will be on fire. Oh, and then, you get to eat whatever you charged with the Carni. After you finish, stop and take a glance at your opponent’s face…and then go on to take the rest of your turn.
I definitely run both, which is why I’m excited about 25 points. By mini-Carnivean, I meant it’s a lot like Carnivean with a little less melee bite. A 14 range, 3 inch AOE makes him comparably good. Add in that Animus and things get saucy.
I’m just glad there’s a Pyre Troll out there to make all those fire-based ranged attacks worthless. There’s not a ton of things that the Trolls can do to thumb their noses at Legion’s cheaterrific beasts, but that’s one of them.
