Amid so many expansive and time-consuming "lifestyle" games, it's nice to have something that gives the same vibe but demands nothing and evokes a tremendous amount of fun. Games are short and snappy, deck-building is crazy approachable and rewarding (20 card faction-only decks plus neutrals), multiplayer actually works very well, and expansions—if they choose to make them and you choose to get them—hit maybe once a year.

Gudnak's tilt toward a more "off-beat" style of fantasy squarely centers it around casual fun instead of sweatiness. It presents as a beer and pretzels game, or perhaps a beer and beer game, but it has the tactical depth that TCG players will instantly appreciate. It's the perfect fit for a card gaming group that wants to kick back and have a blast instead of another night jamming test games, or for any group that regularly meets at a brewery (looking at you, David). It's just...a very fun game worthy of your time.

With over 160 new cards, including the introduction of Attachment and Construct card types, the Auroxi and Rotborn expansions offer the full post-Core Set experience. These expansions also include new cards for the Core Set factions (Refractory, Shardsworn, Gloaming, Delguon). Such a refreshing take on faction design is rarely seen in the world of fantasy, so even if you're just wanting to soak up the additional lore and art we reckon it's worth the price of admission.

Auroxi Expansion

The nomads of the steppe live symbiotically with their giant herdbeasts, weaving magic fabric out of their wool. But the beasts have begun an unprecedented migration and, unfortunately, they're headed towards some not-very-welcoming new neighbors.

The Auroxi have moving strongholds that are on the back of giant yak-like creatures and their tactics attach to fighters on the board, giving them access to powerful spells or causing them to suffer from persistent curses.

Rotborn Expansion

Over a century ago, the Engineer predicted society's downfall. She foretold of a future of death and decay, and figured out a way to make sentient rotting golem friends using magic green juice.

The Rotborn utilize a decay mechanic, reducing the strength of enemy fighters until they wither away and their tactics enter play as constructs that provide persistent effects until they're destroyed.
